Ani DiFranco played in front of her first audience at the age of nine. Ten years later in 1989, at the age of only 19, she released her first album 'Ani DiFranco'.
Ani DiFranco released all her albums on her own label, 'Righteous Babe' which she set up as an alternative to the mainstream record labels in 1994. As an ardent feminist and openly bisexual she tackles issues like rape, abortion and sexism in her lyrics. Smoldering melodies teamed with her political stance make DiFranco more interesting than your average folk act. Angry yet melodic, similarities can be found with the likes of Joni Mitchel and Tori Amos.
DiFranco's career has seen her produce 19 albums, tour the world and even win a Grammy Award in 2004. She writes, plays, sings and produces her own music as well as promoting it through Righteous Babes Records. Her 2008 album 'A Red Letter Year' has seen her on another tour of venues around the world.
