Type O Negative frontman Pete Steele passed away on Wednesday (April 14) due to heart failure. He was 48 years old.
The news came overnight after Fuse VJ Mistress Juliya posted a message on Twitter. "Today is a very sad day in metal," she writes. "End of an era. I loved my friend... our idol... my heart is with his band and family."
In April 2007, Pete revealed that he had embraced the Roman Catholic faith after many years of atheism.
In an interview with U.S. metal magazine Decibel, he said, "There are no atheists in foxholes, they say, and I was a foxhole atheist for a long time. But after going through a midlife crisis and having many things change very quickly, it made me realise my mortality. And when you start to think about death, you start to think about what's after it. And then you start hoping there is a God. For me, it's a frightening thought to go nowhere. I also can't believe that people like Stalin and Hitler are gonna go to the same place as Mother Teresa."
The website for rock radio station KNAC.com is reporting that they have been able to confirm “according to a source from within the band” that Peter Steele has indeed passed away from heart failure at age 48. They add that the singer was apparently Ill for a few days prior to his death.
