Well, that was quick. Just 18 days after getting married in a Las Vegas chapel, Sinead O'Connor and husband Barry Herridge have revealed they are splitting up.
The 'Nothing Compares 2 U' singer posted about the news on her website, blaming unnamed people that were close to her soon-to-be ex for putting pressure on him to end what was her fourth marriage.
"From the moment myself and my husband got together not long ago, there was intense pressure placed upon him by certain people in his life, not to be involved with me," she wrote. "These were people who had never met me but had formed opinions of me based on what they read about 'Sinead 'O'Connor' in the media etc."
O'Connor also revealed that the marriage started to crumble during their wedding night on Dec. 9, thanks to the aforementioned pressures and her decision to smoke pot.
"Within 3 hours of the ceremony being over the marriage was kyboshed by the behaviour of certain people in my husband's life. And also by a bit of a wild ride i took us on looking for a bit of a smoke of weed for me wedding night as I don't drink," she wrote. "It became apparent to me that if he were to stay with me he would be losing too much to bear. And that being with me was not going to serve him positively, career wise or any other wise. I saw his life leave him because of how people close to him reacted. And I can't take anyone's life. And a woman wants to be a joy to her husband. So.. U love someone? Set them free."
Perhaps that weed was responsible for her raunchy wedding announcement, which ended with the following line: "For now though, as you will appreciate, it's a bit of a 'Can't. Talk. C--k. In. Mouth'. Situation."
Despite the split, O'Connor will have something to look forward to in the coming months: She will release her ninth studio album, 'How About I Be Me (And You Be You)' on Feb. 20, her first album since 2007's 'Theology.'
To further prove that the pending divorce isn't a devastating blow, O'Connor added, "As my good friend said 'well, at least you got married in Vegas in a pink Cadillac! Can't get more Rock n Roll than that.'"[/quote:3lkmemxy]
