Is EMI considering a move that would make the RIAA cry like a two-year-old? The label is considering selling their music in MP3 or another DRM (Digital Rights Management) free format. According to Reuters and the Wall Street Journal EMI are holding talks with digital retailers about selling their entire catalog in MP3 format instead of the current protected formats. In exchange for the MP3 format EMI is asking for large payments for their music up-front.
The announcement comes after Apple CEO Steve Jobs published an open letter arguing that selling music without the DRM protections would make it easier for consumers to listen to music on different devices, boosting overall sales.
