[quote:c35veudz]Rachel Leibrock of The Sacramento Bee reports that DEFTONES bassist Chi Cheng is in a coma in a San Jose hospital following a car accident in Santa Clara on Monday (November 3).
The band's singer, Chino Moreno, reached by phone, confirmed the news but declined to give specifics.
"I don't know everything that's going on — I just know it's very serious," Moreno told The Sacramento Bee. "I'm on my way to be with his family, I'm pretty freaked out about it."

espero q se ponga bien pronto y no impida que saquen el nuevo disco muy pronto.
Hello Everyone,
I am back from up North visiting our brother Cheng. His condition remains the same - serious, but stable. We, along with the entire Cheng family, would like to extend our gratitude to everyone that's said a prayer or sent out their positive thoughts to Chi. Your support means more than you know.
During his recovery process, Chi's mother has asked that each day we spread a little bit of good in his name. So each day Deftones will be posting what you can do to help Chi recover. Today, she has asked that you all remember to buckle your seat belts, and remind those you love to buckle up. By doing something so little in his name, you will be helping him find the strength to recover.
Thank you, and please check back daily.

DEFTONES Bassist's Mother Says Doctor Expects CHI CHENG Will Be Playing His Bass Again - Nov. 8, 2008
DEFTONES drummer Abe Cunningham has issued an update on the band's bassist, Chi Cheng, who was seriously injured in a car accident in Santa Clara, California, on Monday (November 3). According to HardDrive Radio, Cheng and his sister were apparently on their way back from a memorial service for their older brother when the accident occurred. Cheng's sister was driving their vehicle, but it remains unknown at this time what caused the crash.
Cheng was reportedly in a coma in an Intensive Care Unit at a local hospital, with his condition listed as "serious but stable."
Cunningham posted a message at the band's studio blog in which he wrote, "I spoke to Chi's mother this morning. The neurosurgeon treating Chi says the first 72 hours are critical, and as of now he is fighting the good fight and the doctors remain optimistic. We are seeing your prayers in action. The family asks that all the prayer warriors out there to continue to pray for Chi, and keep sending out your positive energy!"
Chi's mother Jeanne released the following statement via the band's MySpace page: "When asking Chi's head neurosurgeon what kind of thank-you gift we could get for he and his team of doctors, he responded that some of the surgeons love the DEFTONES and he would like them to have tickets for when chi's back onstage. He expects a tough recovery but in the end expects Chi will be playing his bass again. Praise Jah. For himself, the doc has a special request for all of you. He will give you more details soon. It is 1:00 a.m. now and I am with Chi. I've been reading your emails to him. You are so wonderful. My heart aches with love for you. We are all connected."
Cheng is 38 years old and is a poet as well as a musician. He released a CD of his poetry called "The Bamboo Parachute" in 2000.
Cheng has been a member of DEFTONES since its formation in 1988. The band released its debut disc, "Adrenaline", in 1995 and scored a platinum record with 2000's "White Pony".
The group has been recording its sixth album, "Eros", with a spring 2009 arrival in the works.
hace tiempo que no sabíamos de ellos...
[quote:ro97ugal]Confirmed: Deftones will be appearing at Bamboozle Left, April 5th at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre in Irvine, CA. Tickets are on-sale at 10am this Saturday at thebamboozle.com.
With the announcement of our appearance on Bamboozle, we felt like its time to address some things.
First, Chi.
Our fallen comrade has not made significant progress as of late, but continues to fight on from his accident. Doctors are working feverishly to return our brother to us, and we continue to hold out hope and faith that Chi returns to the life he has waiting for him and can join us on stage once again.
For everyone that knows Chi, knows that he never wanted down time. Chialways wanted to keep working and never slow down, which is why we feel confident in returning to the stage at Bamboozle in April. Chi would want it, and we want to make sure we're keeping his legacy alive.
Back in 1999, Chi had to leave the band for a brief moment and our closefriend Sergio Vega filled in to keep the train moving. 10 years later, Sergio is going to step in once again while Chi is down. Sergio is family to us, and had received Chi's blessing before, so without a doubt we know that if Chi could tell us now, he would give us his blessing again.
In the meantime, we continue work on our record, and as for Bamboozle, we felt like we needed to poke our heads up for a quick breath before we buckle down and get this record finished... So we'll see you all in Irvine.
